Back in elementary school, making lanyards was one of the ways I would pass time inbetween assignments. Everyone at my school made them and put them on the keyrings on our backpacks.
One thing I recall is that the hardest part of this quirky craft was “starting” the lanyard. Such a pain in the butt, but once you got going, they were extremely addictive!
These days, I’m sure elementary schoolers have way more “high-tech” ways to be distracted from their schoolwork. But in the late 90s, we had a much simpler alternative to silent reading.
So if you need a minute away from technology, starting a lanyard might be a new (old) way to unwind. Plastic lanyard can still be found at some craft stores. Here’s one of the tutorials I found on YouTube!
