Everyday after school since I was in the 3rd or 4th grade, I’d come home and turn on the MTV to watch TRL. Yes, this is when MTV still somewhat revolved around music. All of my favorite artists who I worshiped throughout my childhood were the ones who ruled the countdown. It was my daily dose of music and I was obsessed with following the video standings. Of course, the show has since been canceled – I blame YouTube for the demise of TRL but also for saving music videos.
But anyway – a few weeks ago, the coolest thing happened. I tweeted Carson Daly and he actually retweeted me. I don’t care who you are – if you got a retweet from Carson Daly, or anyone with a little check mark next to their name you’d flip out like I did.
Since TRL, Carson is doing pretty well in Hollywood. He hosted his own late night talk show for a few years but is now an anchor on the TODAY show (which I’ve also watched every morning since elementary school) and host of The Voice. In my opinion, he looks better with age!
Here are some of my classic TRL moments I found and also some pics from the photobooth that was on set:
In hindsight, Carson Daly really had the best job ever and I wish I could go back in time and be a VJ – yes, even at 10 years old.
